Sun Nov 03 05:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Australia A Secure Seven-Wicket Win Over India A in Mackay
**Mackay, Australia:** Australia A cruised to a comfortable seven-wicket victory over India A in the first unofficial Test at the Great Barrier Reef Arena on Sunday, thanks to a brilliant century stand by captain Nathan McSweeney and all-rounder Beau Webster.
The duo, who combined for an unbroken 141-run partnership for the fourth wicket, steered Australia A to a comfortable chase of 225 runs. McSweeney finished unbeaten on 88, further enhancing his claims for a Test debut against the West Indies this month, while Webster contributed an impressive 61 not out.
McSweeney’s performance came after a delay in the start of play on day four, following a disagreement between Indian players and umpire Shawn Craig regarding the match ball. The ball had been changed overnight due to scratch marks.
The South Australian opener, who has never opened the batting at first-class level, is considered a frontrunner to partner Usman Khawaja in the Test opening slot.
“I think I’m playing pretty well at the moment,” McSweeney said in the post-match press conference. “I’m really confident in my game, and I’m batting some of the best innings I’ve played. Hopefully I can continue to learn and get better. If the opportunity comes, I feel like I’m ready.”
The second match between Australia A and India A is scheduled to begin at the MCG on Thursday.
