**Puducherry, November 2, 2024:** Auroville, the international township, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art basketball stadium, constructed at a cost of ₹40 lakhs, to foster the athletic potential of rural youth in the region.
The facility, which aims to provide training grounds of international standard, was officially opened by Jayanti S. Ravi, Secretary of the Auroville Foundation. The stadium will benefit not only Aurovillians but also young athletes from surrounding villages, according to a press release.
G. Seetharaman, Officer on Special Duty in Auroville, Janmejay Mohanty, trustee of Bharat Nivas, and Jothi from the New Creation Community were present at the launch.
The project, initiated in 2018, gained momentum in recent years following the securing of necessary resources and funding. The inaugural event was followed by a friendly match between girls’ teams from Auroville, the press release added.
