Sun Nov 03 01:45:34 UTC 2024: ## Apple Acquires Popular Image Editing App Pixelmator

**San Francisco, CA** – Apple has announced its acquisition of Pixelmator, a widely-used image editing app for Mac and iOS devices, pending regulatory approval. The news was shared in a blog post by Pixelmator, who stated that the acquisition will allow them to reach “an even wider audience” and make “an even bigger impact” on the lives of creatives.

While no details about the financial terms of the deal have been released, Pixelmator reassured users that there will be no immediate changes to the Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator apps. They hinted at “exciting updates to come.”

This acquisition marks another step in Apple’s strategy to expand its suite of software applications, following their purchase of the weather app Dark Sky in 2020, which was subsequently shut down and integrated into Apple’s own weather app. However, other software acquisitions like Final Cut and Logic Pro have remained available for years.

Pixelmator Pro has become a popular and cost-effective alternative to Adobe Photoshop, offering a robust suite of tools for photo editing, retouching, design creation, drawing, and more at a one-time cost of $49.99.

The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval, which can be a hurdle for deals of this size. While Microsoft successfully acquired Activision Blizzard, other high-profile acquisitions like Nvidia and Arm, Amazon and iRobot, and recently Adobe and Figma have faced significant regulatory challenges.

It remains to be seen how Apple will integrate Pixelmator into its ecosystem and whether the app will remain available as a separate product.
