Fri Nov 01 14:50:00 UTC 2024: ## UPI Lite Gets an Upgrade: New Rules, Auto-Top Up Feature Coming November 1st

**New Delhi:** Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Lite is getting a major upgrade with new rules and features coming into effect on November 1st, 2024. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced that the transaction limit for UPI Lite will be increased to ₹1,000, while the maximum wallet balance will be bumped up to ₹5,000.

The most significant change is the introduction of an **auto-top-up feature**. This will automatically replenish your UPI Lite wallet balance from your linked bank account when it falls below a certain limit. This eliminates the need for manual top-ups and ensures seamless transactions.

This move aims to simplify and streamline the UPI Lite experience for users. UPI Lite is designed for small value transactions and does not require a UPI PIN.

“This upgrade reflects our commitment to providing a convenient and secure payment experience for our users,” said an NPCI spokesperson.

Previously, UPI Lite users could only transact up to ₹500 and maintain a maximum wallet balance of ₹2,000. The daily spending limit was ₹4,000. This move follows the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) recent proposal to increase the UPI Lite transaction limit to ₹1,000 and wallet balance to ₹5,000.

The auto-top-up feature is expected to enhance the user experience and further popularize the use of UPI Lite for quick and hassle-free payments.
