**New Delhi, November 1st, 2024:** The Indian fashion industry is mourning the loss of renowned fashion designer Rohit Bal, who passed away on Friday after a prolonged illness. He was 63.

Bal had been battling heart ailments for the past year and was admitted to the ICU of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram in November 2023.

According to Sunil Sethi, President of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), Bal suffered a heart attack on Friday.

Bal, known for his signature blend of traditional patterns and modern sensibilities, had returned to work earlier this year. His last appearance was at the Lakme India Fashion Week in Delhi last month, where he showcased his latest collection. However, during the show, Bal appeared unsteady on his feet, raising concerns among fans about his health.

Bal’s death has sent shockwaves through the fashion world. The FDCI released a statement on Friday expressing condolences to the legendary designer. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of the iconic designer Rohit Bal,” the statement read. “He was a founding member of the FDCI. Bal’s work, known for its unique fusion of traditional patterns and modern sensibilities, redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations.”

The FDCI also highlighted Bal’s legacy, stating that his “legacy of art, innovation, and forward thinking will live on in the world of fashion. Rest in peace, Gudda.”

Several other prominent figures, including novelist and columnist Shobhaa De, took to social media to express their grief and pay tribute to Bal.

Rohit Bal, a native of Kashmir, was one of India’s most celebrated fashion designers. His creations were worn by numerous celebrities both in India and internationally. He had previously suffered a heart attack in 2010, and had been living with a pacemaker for several years. In December 2023, he had issued a statement assuring his fans that he was recovering well, expressing his gratitude for the love and prayers from his family and friends.
