**Hyderabad, November 2, 2024:** Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the state’s universities, emphasizing the need to restore trust and reliability in the institutions. Speaking to newly-appointed vice-chancellors on Saturday, Mr. Reddy expressed concern over the “collapsed” state of university systems, stressing the importance of academic quality and research.
“There is an urgent need to infuse confidence among stakeholders, including students,” said the Chief Minister. He instructed the new VCs to immediately conduct a thorough assessment of the current state of universities, potentially hiring consultancies to prepare a detailed report.
Mr. Reddy also highlighted the merit-based selection process for the VCs, emphasizing the consideration of social backgrounds to maintain balance. He assured them of full government support but warned that unsatisfactory performance would not be tolerated.
In addition to academic reform, the Chief Minister urged the VCs to actively address the growing drug culture among students. He emphasized the importance of building trust with students and providing counseling to prevent them from falling prey to drug use.
The meeting with the new VCs signifies a commitment from the Telangana government to revitalize its higher education system. The focus on academic quality, social inclusivity, and addressing drug abuse reflects a multi-pronged approach to ensure a more robust and supportive environment for students and faculty.
