Sat Nov 02 08:47:29 UTC 2024: ## India Stumbles in Mumbai as New Zealand Enforces Dominant Position in Third Test

**MUMBAI, INDIA -** The third and final Test match of the series between India and New Zealand saw a dramatic turn of events on day one at the Wankhede Stadium. New Zealand, already leading the series 2-0, continued their dominance, leaving India struggling to salvage a draw.

The Kiwis, electing to bat first, were dismissed for 235 runs in 65.4 overs. Daryl Mitchell top-scored with a gritty 82, while Will Young contributed a significant 71. Indian bowlers Washington Sundar (4 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (5 wickets) were the architects of the New Zealand collapse.

In response, India’s batting order crumbled under pressure, losing wickets in quick succession. Despite a promising start from openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (30) and Rohit Sharma (18), India found themselves teetering at 78-2. They then lost three wickets within nine balls, leaving them at 84-4.

The end of day one saw India limping at 86-4, still trailing New Zealand by 149 runs. Shubman Gill, who was unbeaten on 31, and Rishabh Pant, on 1, will resume the innings on day two, facing a daunting task of saving India from a potential series whitewash.

If India loses the Wankhede Test, it will mark their first clean sweep in a home Test series since 2000. This defeat will also further dent their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final.

The second day of the match promises a tense battle as India fights to salvage their pride and avoid a disastrous series loss.
