Sat Nov 02 07:32:35 UTC 2024: ## Gill Falls Short of Century as New Zealand Fight Back on Day 2
**Mumbai, India:** India’s hopes of a commanding lead in the third Test against New Zealand were dampened on Day 2 as Shubman Gill missed out on a century, falling for 90 runs.
After a strong start, the Indian innings faltered in the afternoon session, with New Zealand’s spinners exploiting the turning pitch to take wickets.
Gill and Rishabh Pant (60 off 59) had earlier forged a crucial 96-run partnership for the fifth wicket, with both batsmen reaching their half-centuries in impressive style. Pant’s knock was particularly aggressive, coming off just 36 balls.
However, the momentum shifted after lunch. Glenn Phillips broke the crucial partnership by dismissing Ravindra Jadeja, before Ajaz Patel removed both Sarfaraz Khan and Gill.
At the close of play, India were 234/8, with Washington Sundar and R Ashwin at the crease. New Zealand will be hoping to capitalize on their late inroads and restrict India to a manageable target.
