**Jammu:** Devenendra Singh Rana (59), BJP MLA and brother of Union Minister Jitendra Singh Rana, passed away on Thursday night following a prolonged illness. He was receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
Rana, a prominent figure from the Dogra community, won the Nagrota constituency in the recent Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections by a margin of 30,472 votes. He previously served as the MLA from the same constituency in 2014, defeating a National Conference (NC) candidate.
News of Rana’s demise has sent shockwaves through the political circles of Jammu and Kashmir. Many political leaders, including Union Minister Jitendra Singh, have rushed to his residence in Jammu’s Gandhi Nagar area to offer condolences.
The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, expressed his profound grief over the sudden demise of Rana, describing him as a “patriot and dedicated leader who worked for the welfare of the people.” He extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
Several other prominent political figures including Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Congress MLA Ghulam Ahmed Mir, and PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti also expressed their condolences on Rana’s passing.
