**Colombo, Sri Lanka:** Udaya Gammanpila, the leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) party, has accused a current government official of supporting the controversial documentary aired by Channel 4 about the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.
During a press conference today, Gammanpila, referencing a report by a committee led by retired Supreme Court judge S.I. Imam, stated that the government official in question is a former CID officer. He called for the immediate removal and punishment of this individual, labeling them as a “traitor.”
“This government has given a high position to this traitor. If such an individual holds a powerful position in this country, it is the government’s responsibility to remove them immediately and punish them,” said Gammanpila, adding, “We challenge the government. If they can, they should form a team to find this person and expose them.”
The Channel 4 documentary, which aired in April 2023, presented allegations that the Sri Lankan government failed to act on intelligence warnings about the impending attacks. The documentary sparked widespread controversy, with many questioning its accuracy and motive. The Sri Lankan government has consistently denied the claims made in the documentary.
This latest accusation by Gammanpila adds another layer of complexity to the already contentious issue surrounding the Channel 4 documentary and the Sri Lankan government’s response to the Easter Sunday attacks. The government is yet to comment on Gammanpila’s allegations.
