Tue Oct 29 23:40:38 UTC 2024: ## Former MP Claims Channel 4’s Easter Sunday Attack Claims are Fabricated
**Colombo, Sri Lanka (October 28, 2024):** Former Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila has asserted that the information provided by the whistleblower, Asad Maulana, regarding the Easter Sunday attacks, as featured in a Channel 4 documentary, is completely fabricated.
During a press conference held today, Gammanpila stated that Channel 4, a UK broadcaster with a history of supporting the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and maintaining an anti-Sri Lanka stance, had accused the Sri Lankan government intelligence agencies of orchestrating the Easter Sunday attacks in a bid to bring former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to power.
He emphasized that the accusations levied against the military and Gotabaya Rajapaksa regarding the attacks, as presented by Channel 4, are baseless and should be disregarded. Gammanpila recalled that Rajapaksa had removed him and former Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa from the Cabinet and criticized them in his book due to their criticisms against him during his tenure. He maintained that they will not defend the former President.
However, he asserted that it is the duty of Sri Lankan politicians to protect the country’s intelligence agencies from any unfounded accusations.
Gammanpila refuted Maulana’s claims that the Easter Sunday attacks were planned at Sahran’s residence in Puttalam in February 2018. He pointed out that the house in question was built in August 2018, a fact discovered during the investigation of two individuals arrested in February 2019 after explosives were found in the house. This discrepancy, according to Gammanpila, proves that Maulana’s allegations against the intelligence agencies are false.
