Mon Oct 28 22:59:46 UTC 2024: ## Gillespie Takes Over Pakistan White-Ball Coaching Duties After Kirsten Resigns
**LAHORE, PAKISTAN -** Just one week before the start of Pakistan’s white-ball tour of Australia, head coach Gary Kirsten has resigned. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the news today, stating that Kirsten’s resignation has been accepted.
Kirsten’s tenure as coach began in April 2024 with a two-year contract. He was responsible for guiding the team through the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where Pakistan unfortunately saw an early exit. The team is currently preparing for the Champions Trophy 2025, a landmark event as Pakistan prepares to host an ICC event for the first time in almost 30 years.
Stepping into the head coaching role for the upcoming Australian tour is Test coach Jason Gillespie. Gillespie, who joined the PCB at the same time as Kirsten, recently led Pakistan to a historic Test series victory over England – their first home win since 2021.
The Pakistan team will depart for Australia on October 28th, with the first match of the white-ball tour scheduled for November 4th. After the Australian series, Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe for another white-ball series.
The PCB is yet to announce a permanent replacement for Kirsten, but the appointment of Gillespie for the upcoming tour suggests a smooth transition within the coaching structure.
