**Chennai, India:** Legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni has hinted at his intention to continue playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), potentially for a few more years. This comes amidst speculation that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would retain him for the 2025 season.
Speaking at a promotional event for software brand Rigi, Dhoni expressed his desire to savor the remaining years of his cricketing career. “I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play,” he said, adding, “When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do.”
Dhoni acknowledged the challenges associated with maintaining a professional cricketing career, including emotional commitments and the need for consistent fitness. “It’s not easy. The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years,” he stated.
The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman also highlighted the demanding fitness regimen required to participate in the two-and-a-half-month IPL tournament. “I have to keep myself fit for nine months so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit,” Dhoni said.
He revealed his training routine involves 15-25 days of rigorous training followed by a break of 15-20 days, which allows him to stay in peak condition. “I’ve kept it very simple. I’ll train for 15, 20, 25 days and then take off for 15-20 days, so it really helps me be in the groove. I can enjoy the food that I want to eat. Once I start training, I follow a good diet,” he explained.
Dhoni’s potential return to the IPL in 2025 would be a welcome sight for CSK fans, who witnessed him lead the team to five IPL titles. Although he handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the 2024 season, Dhoni’s influence and experience remain crucial to the team’s success.
