Mon Oct 28 02:37:25 UTC 2024: ## Police on High Alert for Festive Season in Karnal
**Karnal, October 28, 2024:** With the festive season upon us, the Karnal Police have stepped up security measures to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration for both residents and businesses. The police department, which successfully maintained peace during the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, is now focused on preventing any incidents of unrest or crime during the festive period.
Police Captain Mohit Handa has directed the deployment of checkpoints at key locations in the city, along with increased patrols on roads. Station and outpost in-charges are actively engaging with shopkeepers, informing them about the importance of vigilance and sharing their contact numbers for reporting suspicious activity. The focus is particularly on controlling rowdy behavior and enforcing speed limits, especially in densely populated areas.
“We are on high alert for Diwali and Chhath Puja,” stated the SHO, adding that any hooliganism will not be tolerated. The police are using binoculars to monitor the situation, while plainclothes officers have been deployed to blend in with crowds and watch for suspicious individuals. Special measures have been taken to ensure the safety of women shoppers, particularly during peak hours.
Traffic police are working to ensure smooth traffic flow in the city, especially at major intersections and busy commercial hubs. Teams have also been set up to crack down on the use of fireworks in public places. Shopkeepers selling fireworks have been warned about adhering to the rules. The police are also working to prevent any accidents related to the use of fireworks and are preparing to deal with potential fire hazards.
The Railway Police Force (RPF) is also on high alert due to the increased influx of passengers during the festive season. The RPF, along with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and a dog squad, are conducting regular checks at railway stations to deter crime, particularly theft and poisoning. Passengers are being advised not to accept food or drink from strangers for their safety. Special focus is being placed on trains heading towards Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which see a significant increase in passenger traffic during this period.
The police are urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the security measures implemented for the festive season.
