Paris will be the center of the footballing universe on Monday, October 28th, as the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards are set to take place. This year, the Premier League is well-represented with a total of 10 players nominated for the coveted “Best Male Player” award.
Among the contenders are Arsenal’s quartet of Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, William Saliba, and Bukayo Saka, alongside Manchester City’s Ruben Dias, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and Rodri. Chelsea and England star Cole Palmer, as well as Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, complete the Premier League contingent.
The competition for the Ballon d’Or is fierce, with Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr emerging as the frontrunner after an outstanding season. The 24-year-old Brazilian winger was instrumental in Real Madrid’s La Liga and Champions League triumphs, scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists.
However, with Premier League dominance continuing to grow, several English-based players could challenge for the coveted prize.
Beyond the individual awards, Premier League clubs are also in the running for top honors. Manchester City are nominated for “Club of the Year,” while Pep Guardiola is nominated for “Men’s Coach of the Year.” Martinez is also nominated for the prestigious “Yashin Trophy,” recognizing the best goalkeeper.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will be held at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris and will be broadcast live on L’Equipe’s YouTube channel and website, starting at 7:45 PM GMT. The awards will recognize the year’s best players, coaches, and clubs across various categories, celebrating the pinnacle of footballing achievements.
