Sun Oct 27 12:00:12 UTC 2024: ## Dhoni Reveals Chahar’s Stubbornness Led to Heated Confrontation During IPL Match
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has opened up about a heated exchange with fast bowler Deepak Chahar during an IPL match in 2019. The incident, which saw Dhoni chastise Chahar for bowling two consecutive no balls, was sparked by Chahar’s stubbornness and unwillingness to follow Dhoni’s advice.
Speaking at a RIGI function, Dhoni revealed that Chahar constantly complained about not being used as a death-over bowler, despite his success in the powerplay. In a bid to prove his point, Dhoni entrusted Chahar with the old ball in the penultimate over of a match against Kings XI Punjab, despite the opposition needing only 39 runs off 12 balls.
However, Chahar’s insistence on bowling a knuckleball, despite Dhoni’s warnings about his excessive sweating, resulted in the no balls. Frustrated with the bowler’s defiance, Dhoni confronted him on the field, with the incident going viral on social media.
Dhoni also confirmed his intent to continue playing in the IPL for a few more years, hinting at his return for the 2025 season. This news was met with confirmation from CSK CEO K.S. Viswanathan, who stated that the franchise would sit down with Dhoni upon his return from Ranchi to discuss his future.
This incident highlights the strong bond and mutual respect between Dhoni and Chahar, despite their occasional disagreements. It also provides further evidence of Dhoni’s commitment to the game and his intention to continue leading the Chennai Super Kings to victory.
