**Madrid, Spain:** Rafael Nadal, after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals of the Six Kings Slam 2024, spoke highly of the young Spaniard, praising his talent and hinting at his own imminent retirement from professional tennis.
Nadal, known for his competitive spirit, acknowledged Alcaraz’s exceptional abilities, stating, “Many people told me that someone very good was coming. I didn’t have the chance to see him play until I trained with him in Australia, in 2021. Although he was still very young, you see things that others don’t have, now you can see it.”
The Balearic legend also expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support he has received throughout his career. “I feel very supported and loved in all parts of the world,” he said. “I cannot thank everyone enough for the support, they have helped me in every possible way when I was in difficult times, in the good times, they have always been there.”
Nadal, who fathered his first child last year, reflected on the impact of parenthood on his career. “I don’t think I have been as good, because since my son was born, I have lost more than I have won. At the same time, having him has helped me in the difficult moments of these last two years,” he shared.
Looking ahead, Nadal hinted at his plans for the upcoming Davis Cup, emphasizing his intention to prepare for the tournament. “I haven’t spoken with my team yet, but I will probably train a bit. In a month, we have the Davis Cup, so every day is an opportunity to improve, to prepare for the last tournament of my tennis career that we will play together (with Carlos Alcaraz) defending our country,” he said.
This statement has fueled speculation that the Davis Cup will be Nadal’s final tournament, although he has not officially confirmed his retirement.
