**Dubai:** In a stunning upset, South Africa defeated the six-time champions and tournament favorites Australia by 8 wickets in the semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup on Thursday, securing their maiden appearance in the final.
Australia, chasing a seventh title, were bundled out for 134 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Beth Mooney top-scored for Australia with 44 runs, while Ellyse Perry contributed 31 runs and Tahlia McGrath added 27. Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the South African bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 24 runs.
In reply, South Africa chased down the target with ease, reaching 135 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 17.2 overs. A brilliant knock of 74 runs not out by Anya Shrubsole, who was adjudged Player of the Match, powered South Africa to victory.
