Fri Oct 18 00:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Rookie Quarterbacks Shine in NFL Week 6, Setting Historic Marks

**Tampa Bay, FL** – This past weekend saw an unprecedented display of offensive prowess from rookie quarterbacks in the NFL. Five rookie starters combined for 12 touchdown passes, surpassing the previous record of 11 set in 2019.

The impressive performance was led by Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears, who threw four touchdowns, and Drake Maye of the New England Patriots, who threw three. Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders, Bo Nix of the Denver Broncos, and Spencer Rattler of the New Orleans Saints added two and one touchdown passes, respectively.

This marks the second time in NFL history that four rookie quarterbacks have thrown multiple touchdowns in the same weekend, the first being in 2011.

The individual success of this year’s class is amplified by the team success of some of these young signal-callers. Daniels’ Commanders are currently atop the NFC East with a 4-2 record, while Williams’ Bears are also surprisingly at 4-2. Nix’s Broncos have a 3-3 record.

While the rookies are on track to surpass last year’s class’s 68 touchdown passes, they still have a long way to go to reach the record 101 touchdowns set in 2012 by a group that included Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, and Robert Griffin III.

**Beyond Quarterbacks, Rookie Talent Shines**

Beyond the quarterback class, several other rookie players have made significant contributions in Week 6.

The Los Angeles Chargers featured a record-breaking six rookies who combined for 283 offensive and defensive snaps. Notably, fifth-round cornerbacks Tarheeb Still and Cam Hart both started and played 100% of defensive snaps, while sixth-round running back Kimani Vidal made his NFL debut and caught a 38-yard touchdown pass.

Several fourth-round running backs stepped in for injured teammates and thrived. Ray Davis of the Buffalo Bills rushed for 97 yards and caught three passes for 55 yards in a close win over the Jets. Isaac Guerendo of the San Francisco 49ers had a breakout performance, including a 76-yard run, in a victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Bucky Irving of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers led the Buccaneers’ rushing attack with 81 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles’ second-round corner Cooper DeJean made his first start and recorded six tackles and a share in a sack.

Tykee Smith of the Buccaneers, a third-round pick, recorded both an interception and a forced fumble in Tampa Bay’s rout of the Saints.

**The future looks bright for this class of rookies, both on offense and defense. With continued development and opportunities, several of these players could become key contributors and even future stars for their respective teams.**
