**SIMPSON COUNTY, MISS. -** A tragic bridge collapse in Simpson County has resulted in three fatalities and four critical injuries. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon during a bridge replacement project on Highway 149.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), the bridge over the Strong River collapsed while the contractor, T.L. Wallace, was in the process of demolishing the existing structure. The bridge had been closed to traffic since September 18th as part of the replacement project.
Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins confirmed the deaths and injuries. The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation.
