**Guwahati, October 17 (IANS)** – Chennaiyin FC displayed incredible resilience, overcoming an early deficit to defeat NorthEast United 3-2 in a thrilling Indian Super League (ISL) clash at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Thursday.
A brace from Wilmar Jordan Gil proved to be the difference for the Marina Machans, who held firm despite playing the final minutes with a man down after Laldinliana Renthlei was sent off.
NorthEast United took an early lead through Nestor Albiach in the 5th minute, but Chennaiyin responded with goals from Jordan Gil (25′) and Lukas Brambilla (36′) to take a 2-1 lead into half-time.
Gil completed his brace early in the second half (51′), before Alaeddine Ajaraie pulled one back for the hosts in the 89th minute. Despite the late concession and the disadvantage of a player sent off, Chennaiyin held on for a crucial victory.
Chennaiyin’s head coach Owen Coyle made a few key changes to his starting XI, with Jordan Gil making his first start of the season and Lalrinliana Hnamte and Farukh Choudhary returning after representing the Indian national team during the international break.
The victory marks Chennaiyin FC’s second win of the season and will be a significant boost to their confidence as they prepare to face FC Goa in Chennai on October 24th.
