**New Delhi:** In a move likely to please central government employees, the government has announced a 3% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for all central government employees. This hike will take the total DA to 45% from the current 42%, and will be implemented from July 1, 2024.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting and comes ahead of Diwali. The last DA hike of 4% was implemented in March 2023.

This hike will be applicable for the period from July to December 2024. Central government employees will also receive arrears for the months of July, August, and September. This translates to an additional Rs. 540 per month for an employee with a base salary of Rs. 18,000.

The move is expected to benefit around 1 crore government employees and pensioners.

**Chhattisgarh Government Also Announces DA Hike**

Meanwhile, the Chhattisgarh government has already announced a 4% DA hike for its employees, bringing Diwali cheer to the state’s government workforce.

The DA hike is a much-anticipated move, as it directly impacts the salaries of central and state government employees. It is a significant financial benefit for government employees and is likely to be welcomed by them.
