**Bengaluru, October 12, 2023:** Incessant rainfall continued to batter Bengaluru on Wednesday, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting normal life. Residents of the city faced difficulties as knee-deep rainwater inundated the Kendriya Vihar Apartment in Yelahanka, showcasing the severity of the situation.
The downpour has led to disruptions across the city. Bengaluru Metro’s Purple Line services were briefly halted due to a tree falling on the tracks. The tree was cleared, and services resumed at 8:05 AM. To address the ongoing situation, the Karnataka government declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on Wednesday. The decision was taken after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an ‘orange’ alert for the city, forecasting heavy rains.
The BBMP has confirmed flooding in 142 residences and 39 fallen trees across Bengaluru. The civic authority has deployed a disaster management team to assist residents and has managed to address flooding issues in 102 homes. The Yelahanka Zone recorded the heaviest rainfall, with Chowdeswari Nagar receiving 73.5 mm and Jakkur receiving 65.5 mm.
The IMD predicts continued heavy rainfall with temperatures around 26 degrees Celsius. They have issued an ‘orange’ alert for Bengaluru and surrounding districts, including Chamarajanagar, Mandya, and Ramanagara, until October 17. The city’s civic authority has assured residents of their constant assistance in managing the flood situation.
