Thu Oct 17 07:10:24 UTC 2024: ## Sabarimala Pilgrims Face Hazardous Road Conditions Ahead of Season
**Thodupuzha:** With the Sabarimala pilgrimage season approaching, concerns have been raised regarding the dangerous state of roads leading to the holy shrine, potentially posing a threat to pilgrims.
The Kottayam-Kumily (KK) Road, a crucial route for devotees, is riddled with potholes and unfinished repairs. A landslide near Peerumedu has left a section of the road completely collapsed, and despite months passing, there has been no action taken to rebuild it.
The Thodupuzha-Erattupetta road presents a similar hazard, with unfilled potholes and damaged crash barriers. The road has been narrowed to one lane in some areas, leading to traffic congestion and increased risk of accidents. The situation is particularly concerning near Muttom, where the road is filled with deep craters, posing a significant threat to pilgrims.
The bypass road near Muttom Engineering College, intended to divert pilgrims away from the congested town, has yet to be constructed. Meanwhile, construction on the Kattappana-Kuttikanam highway is progressing slowly, with the section between Chappath and Parappu being particularly challenging.
The Kattappana-Kuttikanam highway construction has also caused multiple landslides, adding to the road’s instability. The dilapidated condition of the bridge over the Kattappana river, despite a decision to renovate it, adds another layer of danger, especially for fast-moving vehicles.
The narrow and winding road between Kattappana and Puliyanmala is another cause for concern.
These hazards pose a serious risk to pilgrims travelling to Sabarimala, especially during the peak season. Authorities are urged to address these issues urgently to ensure the safety of devotees.
