**Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh:** Two suspects, identified as Saraf and Faheem, involved in the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra during a clash over Durga Visarjan celebrations in Bahraich district, were killed in an encounter by Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday.
The encounter took place near the Nepal border at Handa Basehri canal. Police had received intelligence that the suspects, sons of Abdul Hameed, the main accused in the case, were attempting to flee to Nepal.
During the encounter, both suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were rushed to the hospital. Hospital authorities reported that their condition is stable and out of danger.
Ram Gopal Mishra was killed on Sunday evening during clashes that broke out between two groups during the Durga Visarjan procession. He was shot from the roof of a house owned by Abdul Hameed, who was also arrested along with five others in connection with the violence.
Videos of the incident have surfaced online, showing four to five people on the rooftop of Abdul Hameed’s house at the time of the shooting.
While the police claim the suspects were killed in an encounter, Abdul Hameed’s daughter Rukhsar alleges that her father, brothers, and another young man were taken into custody by the Uttar Pradesh STF on Monday evening. She also alleges that her husband and brother-in-law were already detained by police prior to the incident.
The incident has heightened tensions in the area. The deceased, Ram Gopal Mishra, was a resident of Rehua Mansoor village under the jurisdiction of Hardi Police Station.
