**Kannauj, October 15, 2024:** The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a public holiday on October 31st to celebrate Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. This announcement coincides with the declaration of Diwali holidays starting at the end of October.

Schools and offices will also be closed on October 17th.

The Diwali holiday announcement follows news of a 3% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees, a welcome gift ahead of the festival.

The Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti holiday is a recognition of the revered sage and author of the epic Ramayana.
