Chitrakoot, [Date]: The ancient tradition of feeding “Chandra Kiran Kheer” to asthma patients on Sharad Purnima (Harvest Moon) was observed with much fervor in the holy city of Chitrakoot today.
The special kheer, prepared with milk, rice, and a special blend of herbal remedies, is believed to provide relief from asthma. It is cooked in earthen pots over cow dung fires on the Kamdgiri Parikrama Marg and Ram Ghat. The un-sweetened kheer is then left open under the moonlight for the entire night, absorbing the celestial energy. This practice, passed down for generations, is said to amplify the healing properties of the medicinal herbs.
Hundreds of asthma patients flocked to the holy city to partake in this ancient tradition. They first performed ablutions in the Mandakini River and offered prayers at Maharajaधिराज मत्यगयेन्द्रनाथ temple. They then made their way to the main entrance of the Kamdgiri Parikrama Marg, where they worshipped Kamdanath Swami before consuming the kheer.
“This tradition has been followed for centuries,” said an elderly resident, “It’s a testament to the healing power of nature and the wisdom of our ancestors.”
As the festive air filled the city, vendors set up stalls selling rice, milk, earthen pots, and cow dung, ensuring everything needed for the preparation of the “Chandra Kiran Kheer”. The unique blend of faith, tradition, and herbal remedies continues to draw thousands to Chitrakoot year after year, offering hope to those seeking relief from asthma.
