Wed Oct 16 05:24:27 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru Braces for Heavy Rains, Work-from-Home Advised for IT Companies

**Bengaluru, India** – The Karnataka government has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Bengaluru and surrounding districts, advising IT and private companies to allow employees to work from home on October 16th. The decision comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted persistent rain, with temperatures reaching 26°C in the city.

The Department of Electronics, Information Technology-Biotechnology and Science and Technology emphasized the importance of prioritizing employee safety, citing the potential disruptions to transportation systems caused by flooding and traffic congestion.

The Bengaluru district commissioner, G Jagadeesha, has also declared a school holiday for October 16th due to the heavy rainfall.

The city has already witnessed heavy rainfall for the past 24 hours, with areas under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits receiving 37 mm of rainfall and other areas recording up to 65 mm. Several major roads, including Manyata Tech Park, have been heavily waterlogged.

The IMD predicts that the city will continue to experience rain for the next three days, raising concerns about the fate of the first Test match between India and New Zealand scheduled to begin in Bengaluru on October 16th. Continuous rain has already disrupted practice sessions, leading to frustration among fans and players alike.

The heavy rainfall has also highlighted the city’s ongoing traffic congestion issues. Several social media users expressed their concern over the situation, emphasizing the need for decongesting job opportunities in Bengaluru to alleviate the traffic woes.
