Wed Oct 16 16:44:34 UTC 2024: ## India Aims to Lead the World in 6G Technology: Communications Minister

New Delhi, October 15: India is committed to leading the world in 6G technology, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated on Tuesday. He described the country’s telecommunications sector as “fast-paced” and “ambitious.”

Speaking at the inauguration of the India Mobile Congress and World Telecommunication Standardization (WTS) 2024, Scindia emphasized, “It is our belief and our commitment… India followed the world in 4G, we progressed alongside the world in 5G, but we will lead the world in 6G.”

Scindia highlighted that India rolled out 5G services at a rapid pace, covering 98 percent of districts and 90 percent of villages within 21 months. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims not only to adopt 6G technology but also to make India a frontrunner in this domain.

“It is noteworthy that the India Mobile Congress and the International 6G Symposium showcase local and global progress in 6G,” the minister remarked.

Scindia further emphasized that the recent amendments to the Telecommunications Act 2023 are designed to modernize India’s telecommunications framework, shed light on untapped areas like high-capacity satellite communication, and address the challenges of the digital age, including cyber security.

“Like other key sectors of growth in India, the telecommunications sector is fast-paced, ambitious, and its aim is to lead the world in our journey from Amrit Kaal to Shatabdi Kaal,” Scindia concluded.

The India Mobile Congress (IMC), an annual event organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), will see over 400 exhibitors, nearly 900 startups, and representatives from over 120 countries participate. The WTSA is attended by around 3,200 delegates from over 160 nations.
