**Ghaziabad/Gautam Buddh Nagar, India:** Schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad districts of Uttar Pradesh will remain closed on October 17th, 2024, in observance of Valmiki Jayanti. This decision was announced by the district authorities.
Valmiki Jayanti is celebrated annually on the full moon day of the Ashwin month, which falls on October 17th this year. The day marks the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki, the revered author of the epic Ramayana.
Several events and celebrations are held across the country on Valmiki Jayanti, including processions, cultural programs, and special prayers. Schools will remain closed to allow students and staff to participate in these celebrations.
The closure of schools will coincide with the Diwali holiday period, as schools will also be closed on October 31st and November 1st for the Diwali festival. This extended break will provide students and teachers with a much-needed respite.
