Tue Oct 15 06:00:57 UTC 2024: ## SpaceX Achieves Milestone: Giant Robotic Arms Catch Starship Booster in Mid-Air

**Boca Chica, Texas:** In a significant leap towards reusable rocket technology, SpaceX successfully caught the first stage booster of its Starship rocket in mid-air on Sunday, using a pair of giant robotic arms nicknamed “Mechazilla.” This feat brings the company closer to its ultimate goal of creating a fully and rapidly reusable rocket system.

The 70-meter-long booster, part of the two-stage Starship system, separated from the spacecraft after launch and performed a controlled descent towards the launch site. The Mechazilla arms, mounted on a gantry structure, then precisely caught the booster, marking a historic moment in space exploration.

This was the fifth test launch of the Starship system, which stands at a towering 120 meters, making it the largest rocket ever built. The mission aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of catching the booster mid-air, a crucial step towards achieving rapid reusability.

“This is a game-changer for space exploration,” said Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO, in an interview. “We envision a future where Starship can be turned around and ready to launch again within 30 minutes of landing.”

The success of this mission paves the way for a new era of space travel, where launches become significantly cheaper and more frequent. SpaceX plans to use Starship for a variety of missions, including lunar and Martian exploration.

The company aims to use Starship to transport astronauts to the Moon as part of NASA’s Artemis III mission, and ultimately, to land humans on Mars. However, achieving these ambitious goals requires further testing and refinement of the Starship system to ensure its safety and reliability.

While SpaceX celebrates this milestone, the news comes amid a separate story from India, where the PGIMER Chandigarh hospital is facing a multitude of challenges. A protest by contract workers, staff shortage, and canceled surgeries have disrupted hospital operations. The Association of Resident Doctors has joined the protest, further impacting patient services and cleanliness. The hospital struggles to maintain essential services amid these ongoing disruptions.
