Tue Oct 15 13:06:58 UTC 2024: ## Air India Flight Diverted to Delhi After Bomb Threat on Social Media
**New Delhi, October 14th** – An Air India flight from Mumbai to New York was forced to make an emergency landing in Delhi early Monday morning after receiving a bomb threat on social media. The flight, AI 119, carrying 239 passengers and 19 crew members, was diverted to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport following a security alert received from a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Air India confirmed the incident, stating that the threat was “specific” and triggered immediate action by the government’s security regulatory committee. Upon landing, all passengers were safely disembarked and security checks were conducted on the aircraft. No suspicious items were found, but the incident led to a significant delay and disruption for passengers.
The Boeing 777 aircraft departed Mumbai nearly 50 minutes behind schedule and landed in Delhi around one-and-a-half hours after departure. Passengers were held in the terminal while security procedures were completed.
The incident marks the latest in a series of fake bomb threats targeting Indian airlines. In September, a Vistara flight from Mumbai to Frankfurt was diverted to Erzurum airport in Turkey due to a similar incident. The threat turned out to be a hoax, but the incident left passengers stranded for nearly 24 hours.
Air India has rescheduled the flight to the morning of October 15th, and passengers have been provided with refreshments and accommodations while waiting. The airline is cooperating with authorities to investigate the source of the threat.
“Air India is committed to and accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,” said an Air India spokesperson.
