**Dambulla, Sri Lanka -** The West Indies stormed to a commanding five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20 of the three-match series on Sunday, showcasing an explosive batting display that left the hosts stunned.

A blistering opening partnership between Brandon King (63 off 33 balls) and Evin Lewis (50 off 27 balls) set the tone for the West Indies’ chase, smashing 107 runs for the first wicket – the highest partnership for West Indies against Sri Lanka in T20 cricket. The duo raced to 74 runs in just the first six overs, leaving Sri Lanka on the back foot.

King reached his half-century in style, striking a cover drive for four, while Lewis followed suit shortly after. The pair put on a clinic of aggressive hitting, dismantling the Sri Lankan bowlers with a barrage of boundaries.

Despite a valiant effort from Sri Lankan bowlers, the damage had already been inflicted. The West Indies cruised to their target with five balls to spare, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Earlier, Sri Lanka had posted a seemingly competitive total of 179 thanks to half-centuries from Kamindu Mendis and Charith Asalanka. However, it proved insufficient against the West Indies’ blistering batting prowess.

The remaining two T20s will be played on October 15th and 17th in Dambulla, followed by a three-match ODI series in Pallekele.
