**Tiruchendur, Tamil Nadu:** The number of devotees visiting the Tiruchendur Murugan Temple during full moon days has increased significantly. This October, with two full moons in the month of Puratasi, the temple is expected to witness even larger crowds.
The first full moon of the month was on October 1st. However, devotees who could not visit then are expected to throng the temple on October 16th and 17th, as the second full moon falls on these days.
While tradition dictates that many devotees spend the night on the beach and visit the temple the next morning, experts point out that there is no significant religious connection between full moons and Murugan worship at Tiruchendur.
“It’s a common belief that full moon days have a special energy and that visiting Tiruchendur during this time will bring prosperity. However, this is a misconception. Any coastal temple can be visited on a full moon night,” said a religious scholar.
He further added that ancient texts do not associate Murugan worship with the full moon phase.
Despite this, the temple is a popular destination for those seeking blessings for children and other desires. Those seeking a child are advised to visit the temple on a Wednesday night and stay overnight to receive the blessings of Murugan in the early morning.
