Mon Oct 14 02:50:00 UTC 2024: ## Social Security and SSI Benefits to Increase in 2025
**Washington, D.C.** – Individuals receiving Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will see an increase in their monthly payments starting next year. The Social Security Administration announced Thursday that benefits will rise by 2.5% in 2025, reflecting the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) tied to inflation.
The increase will see the maximum federal SSI benefit for individuals jump to $967 per month, up from $943 this year. Couples will receive a maximum of $1,450 per month, compared to $1,415 in 2024. Some states offer additional benefits on top of the federal amount.
“Social Security benefits and SSI payments will increase in 2025, helping tens of millions of people keep up with expenses even as inflation has started to cool,” said Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley.
The new payment amounts for SSI recipients, including many with disabilities, will take effect on December 31st, with Social Security benefits following in January.
The Social Security Administration will start notifying beneficiaries of their new benefit amounts by mail in early December. This information will also be available online for individuals with an account on the Social Security website. The agency has implemented a new simplified format for these notices, featuring plain language and providing exact dates, dollar amounts, and any deductions on a single page.
This year’s COLA increase of 2.5% is a welcome change after the past three years saw more significant growth in benefits.
