Mon Oct 14 08:41:31 UTC 2024: ## OLA Ordered to Provide Direct Refunds to Customers: CCPA Takes Action Against Ride-Hailing Platform

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has ordered OLA to provide customers with the option to receive refunds directly to their bank accounts or through coupons when resolving complaints. This comes after an investigation by the CCPA found that OLA’s current refund policy only offered customers coupons, which could only be used for future bookings.

The CCPA deemed this practice a violation of consumer rights, as it limited customer choices and made it difficult to receive a refund. This directive ensures consumers can choose their preferred method of receiving compensation.

The CCPA also ordered OLA to issue proper bills for all “auto rides” booked through its platform. This will provide customers with a clear record of their rides and facilitate easier resolution of any future issues.

The move comes in response to a significant number of complaints against OLA. According to the National Consumer Helpline (NCH), 2,061 complaints were registered against OLA between January 1st and October 9th, 2024. The majority of these complaints were related to overcharging and refund issues.

The CCPA’s action reflects a growing focus on consumer protection in the ride-hailing sector and aims to ensure fair treatment for customers.
