**Cape Town, South Africa:** India’s hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup took a blow on Wednesday after a 9-run loss against Australia. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, reflecting on the defeat, highlighted the need for the team to learn from their Australian counterparts.
“We should learn from Australia,” said Kaur during the post-match presentation. She identified a missed opportunity to capitalize on loose deliveries during her partnership with Deepti Sharma. “We could have controlled those boundaries. We were in the game, but Australia’s experience proved to be better. We need to learn from them,” she added.
Kaur praised the Australian team’s fielding, stating, “Their fielding was better than ours. They didn’t give us any easy runs, and their experience showed in the game. They have played many World Cups, which proves the strength of their team.”
Despite the setback, Kaur remains optimistic about India’s chances of reaching the semi-finals. However, she acknowledged the competitiveness of the tournament and emphasized that only the deserving teams should progress. “This tournament has been tough. We tried to do whatever was in our hands, but now the rest is not in our control. If we get the chance, it will be good. Otherwise, only those teams who deserve to reach the semi-finals should go there,” she concluded.
India’s fate now hangs in the balance, depending on the results of the remaining group matches. The team will need to regroup and learn from their mistakes if they are to secure a spot in the semi-finals.
