**Mumbai:** The murder of prominent NCP leader Baba Siddique has sent shockwaves through Maharashtra, especially with the upcoming state assembly elections. Siddique, a former minister in the Maharashtra government, was shot dead on Saturday night while exiting his son’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra East area.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder and were presented before a court on Sunday. The police, while revealing details of the investigation, also indicated that they are exploring a potential political angle to the case.

The police are investigating if the murder was linked to political tensions ahead of the elections. Siddique had joined the NCP under Ajit Pawar’s leadership earlier this year after a 48-year-long stint with the Congress. He was a three-time Congress MLA from Bandra West and was known for his close ties to several Bollywood A-listers. His annual Eid Iftar party was a popular gathering for politicians and film stars.

The police have not ruled out any possibilities and are investigating all angles of the murder. They are also probing possible connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The case has sparked outrage and concerns about law and order in Maharashtra. NCP chief Sharad Pawar has raised questions about the state’s law and order situation while Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has assured strict action against the perpetrators.
