Mon Oct 14 16:02:24 UTC 2024: ## Canada-India Relations Hit a New Low: Allegations of Interference and Diplomatic Fallout

**New Delhi/Ottawa:** Relations between India and Canada have plunged to a new low, fueled by escalating tensions over the murder of Khalistani separatist leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada’s recent inclusion of India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Verma, in a list of suspects in Nijjar’s murder has sparked outrage in India.

The Indian government has accused Canada of making baseless allegations and has called for evidence to support these claims. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has also expressed disappointment at Canada’s refusal to share any information regarding the allegations despite repeated requests.

Adding fuel to the fire, India has pointed out a pattern of Canada’s “hostile” stance towards India since 2018, citing the inclusion of known separatists in Canada’s cabinet and alleged interference in India’s 2020 elections.

While Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau maintains his government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and investigating the Nijjar case thoroughly, India remains skeptical. Diplomatic experts believe that reconciliation between the two countries seems unlikely until Canada takes concrete action against separatist groups and their activities within its territory.

This latest diplomatic spat adds another layer of complexity to an already strained relationship between the two nations.
