**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** The first T20I between Sri Lanka and the West Indies kicked off today at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium. West Indies, winning the toss, elected to bowl first, citing uncertain weather conditions and a wet outfield.

Captain Rovman Powell expressed his hope that the bowlers could exploit the conditions to their advantage. He also highlighted the team’s recent positive form, claiming they have performed well over the last year and a half.

Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka revealed they would have also opted to bowl first, given the weather. He expressed his excitement about starting preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

The match began with Alzarri Joseph delivering the first ball of the series, which resulted in a no-run. However, Pathum Nissanka, opening the batting for Sri Lanka, quickly scored a single, putting his team on the board.
