Hyderabad, India – Professor G.N. Saibaba, a former professor at Delhi University and a prominent activist, passed away on Saturday night at the age of 57. He had been admitted to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad recently due to health complications.

Professor Saibaba’s body will be taken to the Gun Park in Hyderabad on Sunday morning. From there, it will be transported to his residence in Moula-Ali, Jawahar Nagar. The family will allow public visitation for two hours at the residence before the body is donated to Gandhi Medical College.

Saibaba was arrested in 2014 under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) on allegations of having links with Maoists. He spent almost a decade in jail before being acquitted in March 2024.

Cheruku Sudhakar, a close associate of Professor Saibaba, criticized the BJP government, stating that despite his disability, Saibaba dedicated his life to serving society. He lamented that the government kept Saibaba in prison for ten years without providing proper facilities.

Saibaba’s death has sparked grief and anger among his supporters, with many calling for action against the BJP government. Professor Saibaba’s legacy is that of a man who dedicated his life to social justice, even facing significant challenges. He is survived by his wife, Vasanti, and daughter, Manjeera.
