**Mumbai, India -** Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has condemned the murder of former three-time MLA Baba Siddique, a prominent politician and member of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), calling it a shocking and tragic event.

Gandhi expressed his condolences to Siddique’s family and accused the Maharashtra government of failing to maintain law and order, saying the incident exposed a “complete collapse” of security.

“This horrifying incident exposes the complete collapse of law and order in Maharashtra. The government must take responsibility, and justice must prevail,” Gandhi stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Siddique, 66, was shot dead by three unknown assailants on Saturday evening in Bandra East, Mumbai. The incident occurred on a day when Mumbai police were on high alert due to two Dussehra rallies. The attack took place outside his son Zeeshan Siddiqui’s office, who is a Congress MLA.

Siddique was a prominent figure in Maharashtra politics, known for his flamboyant style and connections with Bollywood. He served as a Congress MLA for three terms and as a minister in the Congress-NCP government from 2004 to 2008. He had recently joined the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP in February.

The murder has sent shockwaves through the state, particularly in the run-up to the Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled for November.
