Fri Oct 11 10:11:48 UTC 2024: ## Trump Praises Modi as “Friend” and “One of the Best”

Former US President Donald Trump has once again lauded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a “friend” and “one of the best” during a recent podcast interview.

Speaking on the “Flagrant” podcast, Trump discussed his impressions of world leaders, highlighting his relationship with Modi. He remarked on India’s stability under Modi’s leadership, saying, “Narendra Modi, he’s a friend of mine, and he’s one of the best. Before he was Prime Minister, India was very unstable. He looks like your father, from the outside. He’s the best.”

Trump reminisced about the “Howdy Modi” event held in Texas in September 2019, where PM Modi addressed a massive crowd of Indian-Americans at the NRG Stadium. Trump recalled, “He had a ‘Howdy, Modi’ thing in Houston, Texas. I was there, and it was beautiful. It was almost 80,000 people, and it was insane. We were walking around. I probably couldn’t do anything like that today.”

Trump also revealed that he shares a strong bond with Modi, recalling a conversation involving India-Pakistan tensions. Without naming Pakistan, Trump stated, “On some occasions, somebody was threatening India, and I said to Modi, ‘Let me help you, because I’m very good at this.’ And he said, ‘I will handle it, and I’ll do whatever’s necessary. We’ve been beating them for years.’ And I said, ‘Wow, what just happened?’”

Trump’s admiration for Modi has been consistent, even during the recent QUAD summit, where he called Modi “fantastic.” While a meeting between the two leaders was anticipated during the summit, it did not materialize.

The mutual respect between PM Modi and Trump is evident, with both referring to each other as close friends. During his presidency, Trump visited India for the “Namaste Trump” event in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which attracted over 100,000 attendees, marking the largest rally ever held for a US president abroad.
