Fri Oct 11 10:00:00 UTC 2024: ## GTA 6 Delay Likely, Says Former Rockstar Dev

Obbe Vermeij, a former technical director at Rockstar North who worked on the early Grand Theft Auto games, has weighed in on the possibility of a delay for the highly anticipated GTA 6. While he cautions that he is no longer an insider and his insights are based on his experience, Vermeij believes a delay is likely, pointing to the precedent set by GTA 4, which was delayed several months before its release.

Vermeij explains that GTA 4 was not ready for release and would have been “a mess” if it hadn’t been delayed. He attributes the delay to a number of factors, including lagging PS3 performance, unfinished missions, code bugs, and the need for more time to polish the game.

Given the massive scope and complexity of GTA 6, which is expected to be far more ambitious than its predecessor, Vermeij believes Rockstar will take a similar approach and delay the game if necessary. He notes that Rockstar has no pressure to rush the release, as GTA 6 will likely be a huge success for years to come and there is no competition to worry about.

Vermeij’s comments echo the sentiment expressed by Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, who has repeatedly stated that the company is seeking perfection and will release GTA 6 when it is ready.

While a 2025 release date was initially hinted at in a trailer, Vermeij suggests that a delay to 2026 is more likely, and even 2027 remains a possibility. Despite the potential for a delay, Vermeij believes that Rockstar will ultimately release a polished and complete game, ensuring a satisfying experience for fans.
