**Mumbai, India** – Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, has once again secured the top spot on Forbes’ list of 100 richest Indian tycoons in 2024. This year, India’s top 100 wealthiest individuals have collectively crossed the trillion-dollar mark in net worth for the first time ever, according to Forbes.
Ambani, who recently announced bonus shares as a Diwali gift for Reliance investors, saw his wealth increase by $27.5 billion in the past year, making him the second-biggest gainer in dollar terms. His current net worth stands at $108.3 billion, placing him as the 13th richest person globally.
The Forbes report attributes the surge in wealth among India’s elite to a strong stock market, robust IPO activity, and booming mutual funds. The BSE Sensex, India’s benchmark stock index, has gained 30 percent since last year, contributing to the “rich getting richer” phenomenon. Over 80 percent of those on the Forbes rich list saw their wealth increase, with 58 individuals adding $1 billion or more to their net worth.
The combined wealth of India’s top 100 richest individuals has jumped 40 percent to $1.1 trillion in 2024, a significant increase from the $799 billion reported in 2023. This landmark achievement signifies the remarkable growth of India’s economy and the increasing financial prowess of its elite.
