Wed Oct 09 08:03:11 UTC 2024: ## Pakistan’s Masood and Shafique Break Records with Historic Partnership Against England

**Multan, Pakistan:** Pakistan captain Shan Masood and opener Abdullah Shafique shattered records with a mammoth 253-run partnership on the opening day of the first Test against England in Multan on Monday. The duo’s record-breaking stand, the fourth highest for the second wicket in Pakistan’s Test history, put England’s inexperienced bowlers through the wringer.

The pair came together after young opener Saim Ayub was dismissed early in the first session. Masood, playing with aggression, scored at a blistering strike rate of 100, while Shafique adopted a more cautious approach, particularly against England’s short ball barrage.

The partnership, which was the second highest ever at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Tests, finally came to an end after both batsmen began to feel the effects of cramping. Shafique fell for 102 (184), while Masood followed shortly after, ending his innings on 151 (177).

The last time England conceded a partnership of 250 runs in Test cricket was in December 2019. This historic stand is a testament to the growing strength of Pakistan’s batting lineup and serves as a warning to the English team.
