Wed Oct 09 03:12:21 UTC 2024: ## Padres’ Machado Avoids Discipline for Throwing Ball at Dodgers Dugout
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado will not face any disciplinary action from Major League Baseball after throwing a baseball toward the Los Angeles Dodgers’ dugout during Game 2 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday.
Despite video evidence showing the ball directed towards the Dodgers’ dugout, where manager Dave Roberts usually sits, MLB reviewed the footage and decided against punishment.
Roberts expressed his discomfort with the incident, stating that Machado’s throw was “unsettling” and “disrespectful” if intended at him. While Roberts acknowledged he has a relationship with Machado from their time together with the Dodgers, he noted there was “intent behind it”.
Machado, however, claimed he routinely throws balls into both dugouts for the bat boys to retrieve. His manager, Mike Shildt, defended Machado, stating that he believed there was no malicious intent behind the throw.
The incident adds fuel to the already heated rivalry between the Dodgers and Padres, who have clashed multiple times in recent years. The two teams are now locked in a tight series for the National League Championship, with the winner facing the victor of the New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies NLDS.
