Kollam, Kerala: Renowned Malayalam actor T.P. Madhavan passed away at the age of 88 on Wednesday at a hospital in Kollam. The veteran actor, known for his versatility and captivating performances, was on a ventilator due to stomach-related ailments.
Madhavan, the son of esteemed professor N.P. Pillai, began his acting career later in life, making his debut in 1975 at the age of 40 with the film “Raagam.” He went on to act in over 600 films, earning accolades for his ability to portray both villainous and comedic characters with equal ease.
The actor, who held a postgraduate degree in sociology, was also the first General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). After facing problems due to amnesia, Madhavan resided at Pathanapuram Gandhi Bhavan since 2015 following treatment for a stroke. He was recognized for his contributions to the film industry with the Ramu Karyat Award and the Prem Nazir Award.
Madhavan’s iconic roles in films like “Kalikkalam,” “Nadodikkattu,” “Vietnam Colony,” “Sandesham,” and “Lelam” left an enduring mark on Malayalam cinema. His last rites are scheduled to be held on Thursday at Santhi Kavadam.
