Wed Oct 09 02:50:47 UTC 2024: ## BJP Sweeps Haryana, National Conference Triumphs in Jammu & Kashmir
**New Delhi, October 9, 2024:** The BJP secured a decisive victory in Haryana, while the National Conference-led alliance dominated Jammu & Kashmir, according to the Assembly election results announced on Tuesday.
In Haryana, the BJP won 48 seats, surpassing the majority mark in the 90-member Assembly. The Congress, despite leading in one constituency, secured only 36 seats. This victory marks the BJP’s third consecutive term in power in Haryana, a feat rarely achieved in the state.
Jammu & Kashmir witnessed a clear mandate for the National Conference, which secured 41 seats, leading their alliance to a total of 49 seats. The Congress, which had contested 32 seats, managed to win only six, with just one victory in Jammu. The BJP, while sweeping Jammu with 29 seats, failed to win any seats in the Kashmir Valley.
This election served as a relief for the BJP, boosting the party’s image after struggling to reach the majority mark in the Lok Sabha election. The results set the stage for upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge congratulated Omar Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah, calling the results a verdict against the BJP’s “anti-people policies”. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made its debut in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly.
The Congress, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the results in Haryana, alleging irregularities with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The party vowed to pursue complaints filed with the Election Commission.
The Haryana elections also resulted in a significant setback for regional parties like the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), which failed to make a mark in the elections.
