Tue Oct 08 20:22:38 UTC 2024: ## JJP Loses Ground in Haryana Elections: Chautala’s Party Suffers Major Setback
The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), led by Dushyant Singh Chautala, has suffered a major setback in the Haryana Assembly elections. The party, which emerged as a kingmaker in the 2019 polls, is facing a crushing defeat this time around, with all candidates trailing behind their opponents.
The JJP, which formed a coalition government with the BJP in 2019, had enjoyed a successful four-and-a-half-year tenure, with Chautala serving as Deputy Chief Minister. However, the alliance dissolved in 2023, leading to the BJP forming a new government under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
This election saw the JJP contest 70 seats in alliance with the Azad Samaj Party (ASP-Kanshi Ram). However, the pre-poll alliance aimed at targeting Dalit voters appears to have failed, with the JJP failing to make a significant impact.
Adding to the JJP’s woes, the party has witnessed a mass exodus of its members, with three MLAs and the state unit president switching sides to the BJP and Congress respectively. The party’s dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections, where it failed to win any seats, had already signaled a decline in its support base.
The results indicate a significant shift in political dynamics in Haryana, with the BJP emerging as the dominant force. The JJP’s future appears uncertain, with the party facing an uphill battle to regain its lost ground.
